If I tell you that watching the news can affect your health would you believe it? The fact is I am not the only one who is saying this. Right after 911 in New York, one of the chief cardiologist there reminded people to not glue to the TV 24 hours a day.
The reason? Here’s the first point: to your brain, everything that is being input is counted as a new piece of information. Let me give you an example: a car accident. You read it from the newspaper as you travel to work, so that is one time. You go back to the office and talk about it with your colleague, that is the second time. Then as you walk down the street there is that big TV screen talking about that piece of news, that’s the third time. When you go home, you turn on the TV and watch the news in 2 different channels, and so that is fourth and fifth time. The next day when you get up, you turn on the news and there is that report again, and that becomes the sixth time.
So to your brain, that one car accident becomes six car accidents.
Second point: the brain does not know what is real or false. The brain does not care whether that accident actually happen to you or to someone else but every time the brain receives pictures of such an incident, it will response accordingly. If only people would realize how damaging this can be
When we see or hear messages that upset us or cause us to response shockingly, our brain will respond and our body will have the following reaction:
-- blood sugar level increases
-- eyes dilate
-- sweat glands perspire
-- heart rate increases (our heart would overwork)
-- mouth becomes dry
-- muscle tense (muscle includes our stomach, our intestines etc)
-- blood decreases in our limbs and head
But all the above responses happen without our awareness because we are too focused on the accident. Nevertheless, our brain and body have paid the price!
So choose your news programs wisely!
